Ever since it opened over 130 years ago St Chrysostom's has had regular weekday worship. The nature of the worship, and
times have varied according to the needs of the day.
Today our weekday worship centres around the celebration of Mass each day from Monday to Thursday at 5pm. This
celebration lasts about 20-25 minutes and is a quiet act of worship and the end of the working day. During the Mass prayers for
the parish and for the world are offered. On feast days there may be a brief homily. We find that the weekday mass attracts
some worshippers who are not able to be with us on a Sunday, or who attend another church on a Sunday, as well as some of
our own regular worshippers.
From Monday to Friday the church is open from 4.50pm and the Angelus is rung just before 5pm.
Morning Prayer is often said at 9.30am from Monday to Friday. Vespers is said at 5pm on Fridays. Vespers is a simplified
version of Evening Prayer from Common Worship.
Weekday worship is said in the Anson Chapel. The Blessed Sacrament is reserved here and the space is ideally suited for
worship with a smaller number of people.
From the Monday after Advent Sunday until Shrove Tuesday (inclusive) weekday worship is held in the Community Room at the
side of church (which can be heated independently from the main church). During this period access to the worship is through
the side door of church, in Anson Road.
