LGBT Communion, First Saturday of the month at 5.30pm
A ministry of the Diocese of Manchester and St Chrysostom's Parish, Victoria Park.
Who are we?
A group of LGBT christians of the Anglican Church and other churches who meet once a month for Eucharist and Fellowship.
When is the LGBT Communion?
We have a monthly Eucharist on the first Saturday of the month at 5.30pm St Chrysostom's Church, Manchester.
Who can come?
Anybody. It is intended to be 'safe sacred space for lesbian, bisexual and trans people, their families and friends.
How did it start?
In 2006 the suggestion was made to the Bishop of Manchester's Advisory Group on Sexuality that a monthly Eucharist be held
for LGBT people, their friends, and supporters. Such a Eucharist, it was noted, is held regularly in the RC Diocese of
Westminster, in London. Bishop Nigel and the Advisory Group strongly supported the idea.
After consulting widely the group decided to begin a monthly Eucharist on a Saturday evening. In this way the monthly Eucharist
would not be seen as an alternative to Sunday worship. The Churchwardens of St Chrysostom's, Victoria Park welcomed the idea
of holding the Eucharist at St Chrysostom's, a Church with a tradition of welcome and inclusivity.
The Diocese of Manchester provided a grant to help publicise the service, and a small group of lay people has been set up to
welcome people and to provide hospitality afterwards.
